Linch: Top three still realistic

Little Common manager Mark Linch believes a top three finish remains realistic despite their sudden slump in form.

Last weekend’s 3-2 derby defeat at home to Westfield was Common’s fourth consecutive loss in all competitions, yet they remain second in Division Two of the Sussex County Football League.

Linch said: “There’s no reason why we can’t get top three this season. The league is so open this year.

“It’s all about confidence and last year (when Common finished fourth) we had bags of it. If we suddenly get a run going, we’re back in there.

“We’ve got another 20 games to go and there’s a lot of points still to be won. If we’re going to have a chance of the top three, we should be looking at 35 points by Christmas.”

Common looked a shadow of the side which ran out impressive 3-0 winners in August’s reverse fixture against Westfield with influential striker Steve Morris operating as a centre-half due to injuries in the back line, and the pace and direct running of the injured Jared Lusted out wide sorely missed.
