Roy Hodgson has handed the Southampton left-back Luke Shaw a first international call-up in his 30-man squad for the friendly against Denmark at Wembley next Wednesday. Jermain Defoe is perhaps the most surprising selection, however, given the striker officially leaves Tottenham to join Toronto FC on Friday. There is no room in the squad for West Ham’s Andy Carroll and although Hodgson insisted the door was not shut on the forward, his chances of making the final cut for Rio seem minimal. (The Guardian)

Roy Hodgson has picked his 30-man squad for the friendly with Denmark next week, omitting the in-form Hull midfielder.
