New Rye clubhouse is taking shape

The new Rye United FC Clubhouse is really coming together.

Work on the outside of the impressive-looking building at The Salts isn’t too far from completion and the inside tasks are now underway.

Winchelsea-based building company Jim Soan & Sons Ltd began work during July. The roof is now virtually complete, the doors and windows are in, and the structure is watertight and secure.

Cladding was going on the outside last week, while an electrician and plumber are due to be coming in soon, although the football club will be short of money from the insurance payout on the previous building.

Rye chairman Clive Taylor feels February is a realistic target for getting the clubhouse up-and-running and is very confident of it being open by the time of the Sussex County Football League ground grading inspection in March.

The building will replace the Sidney Allnutt Pavilion which was destroyed in an arson attack during August 2010, leaving the football club unable to use its own ground for five months.
