Both clubs will be hoping that The Saffrons playing surface dries out following the rain of the past 12 hours so that the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup third round tie can go ahead. The weather is forecast to improve as the day goes on.

The East Sussex derby has been given some added spice by the war of words between Rye boss Marc Gall and his Eastbourne Town counterpart John Lambert in last week’s Rye Observer.

Gall angrily accused new Town manager Lambert of illegally approaching several of his players, while Lambert mounted a robust defence of his character and urged Gall to ‘practice what he preaches’.

Tonight will be Lambert’s first game in charge of Town if it goes ahead following consecutive postponements last Wednesday and Saturday. For their part, Rye have played just twice since mid-December. Kick-off is scheduled for 7.45pm.
