Player suffers double leg break in Sussex football friendly

A football friendly was abandoned after just ten minutes when a player suffered a serious leg injury which turned out to be a double break.

Bexhill United's Drew Greenall picked up the injury in the early stages of the SCFL side's pre-season game at Westfield on Saturday afternoon.

A halt was immediately called to the game because it was obvious how serious it was. The teams will attempt a rematch on Wednesday evening.

Bexhill first tweeted: "Our thoughts,prayers and positive thoughts are with club legend Drew Greenall who suffered what looks to be a serious leg injury in today’s game. He’s now being looked after at the hospital."

Later they added: "We are sad to confirm that striker Drew Greenall has suffered a double leg break at today’s pre-season friendly. As a club we will now do everything we can to help and support Drew and obviously we all wish him a speedy recovery."

Bexhill manager Ryan Light tweeted: "A massive thank you to Westfield and to the medical people on hand at today’s game who attended to our player, especially our own incredible physiotherapist Claire Barham, who is literally worth her weight in gold."

* Bexhill have announced the appointments of Mark Sweeting (Assistant Manager) and Shane Lovell (DS Coach) to their U23 Development Squad management team ahead of the 2020-21 season.
