A late double from substitute Kenny Pogue meant United overturned a half time deficit to go level on points with Ryman Football League Division One South leaders Crawley Down Gatwick.

United made two changes from the side which drew 1-1 at Burgess Hill Town four days ago. Danny Ellis made his first start of the season in place of Tom O’Connor, while Andy Henson returned at left-back in place of Andrew Corrigan.

Hythe - who had picked up eight points from their first four games after reaching the play-offs last season - were denied the opening goal by a goal-line block, but took the lead moments later through a superb 25-yard strike by Rhys Lawson.

With the rain still pouring down in the second half, Hythe were only denied a second by an offside flag. Pogue and Jordan Woodley replaced Matt Maclean and Tim Olorunda, and Pogue equalised in the 78th minute after Sean Kelly’s effort was well saved.

Woodley sent a free kick just over and it looked as though the game could go either way, but it was United who won it in the 90th minute. Ellis made a driving run down the right and delivered a low cross which was turned home by Pogue.

United (4-4-2): Pelling; Gilbert, Judge, Kelly, Henson; Ellis, Olorunda, Darby, Maclean; Adams, Crone. Subs: Pogue, J. Woodley, Corrigan, Richardson, Shonk.
