Ray slams “worst ref in long time”

Sean Ray hit out at the performance of the referee in Hastings United’s 1-1 draw at home to Wealdstone.

United’s player-manager also had words with Ditchling-based official Graham Kane on the pitch after last night’s game and expects to receive a ban as a consequence.

Ray said: “I think he completely spoilt the game. I thought he was poor, probably the worst referee we’ve had down here in many a long time.”

Kane certainly had the supporters on his back during the second half and Ray was particularly annoyed that Wealdstone substitute Tom Pett stayed on the field for the challenge which left full-back Jono Richardson unable to walk.

“How he’s not sent that fellow off I don’t know,” Ray went on. “He’s gone in high, over the ball and Scott Manning gets a yellow card - the same as their player (for his part in the ensuing melee).

“I’ve not spoken about a referee after a game before, but I thought it was embarrassing. He should just go back to refereeing Sunday football. He’s going to report me so I’m going to get a ban for it, and he’s free to pick his money up and carry on.”

Ray was pleased with his players as they returned to normality following their FA Cup exploits and the unusually high attendance for a midweek game .
