Rye buoyant going into Vase replay

Rye United are upbeat about their victory chances in their FA Vase second replay tonight (Tuesday).

The Quarterboys make the long journey to Buckinghamshire to face a Chalfont St Peter side with whom they drew 4-4 after extra-time in an incredible initial encounter at Lancing on Saturday.

Manager Scott Price said: “I think it’s going to be a hell of a game. They were a good side, but we believe we can beat them.”

Rye will welcome back creative midfielder Duncan McArthur from a seven-match ban and Sam Cole, who was in Amsterdam at the weekend. But Jack Franklin is expected to miss out through injury and there are doubts over the availability of Paul Watson.

Chalfont, who have won all 16 of their matches in the South Midlands League Premier Division, are 2/5 with Skybet, with the draw 16/5 and Rye 5/1. For the competition itself, Chalfont are 9/1 third favourites and Rye are 100/1.

The winners will be away to Three Bridges, who like Rye are in the top three of Sussex County League Division One, in the last 64 on Saturday December 4.

Return here tomorrow morning to find out how Rye get on.
