Rye draw but Sidley lose

Rye United picked up a point and Sidley United suffered a late defeat in filthy weather last night (Tuesday).

Sidley conceded an 88th minute winner to go down 3-2 at St Francis Rangers, while Rye drew 1-1 at home to 10-man Peacehaven & Telscombe in Sussex County Football League Division One.

In a clash between the sides placed fourth and second at kick-off, Rye trailed at half time to a 37th minute goal from Carl Dunk following a spot of pinball in the home box.

Peacehaven had a player sent-off five minutes into the second period and missed a golden opportunity to go two-up when Rye goalkeeper Ollie Jones saved a penalty midway through the half.

Jack Franklin equalised a couple of minutes later and neither side could conjure up a winner during the closing quarter.

Although Sidley would have been determined to improve on their weekend disappointment, they were 2-0 down at half time to goals from Charlie Pitcher and Aaron Walsh.

But Andy Hales halved the deficit on the hour and Dan Cruikshank looked to have salvaged a point with an 86th minute equaliser only for Andy Mott to give Saints a third consecutive league win two minutes later.

Reports on both matches will appear in Friday’s Observers.
