Rye out to improve league form

Rye United manager Scott Price is challenging his players to produce their big match form in league games.

The Quarterboys turned in a very creditable performance during a 3-0 defeat away to Blue Square Bet Premier club Eastbourne Borough in a Sussex Senior Cup quarter-final on Tuesday night.

Although admittedly having to contend with a crazy fixture schedule, Rye have picked up just five points from six Sussex County League Division One matches prior to the visit from Hailsham Town tonight (Thursday).

“I want to finish second, I don’t want to finish third or fourth,” added Price. “It could quite easily peter out and be an unsuccessful year, especially with the (strong) squad we’ve got.”

Danny Ellis and Shaun Loft are suspended for the Hailsham clash, while Sam Cole and Danny Leach could face their former club. Scott Ramsay has been appointed captain until the end of the season.

Kick-off is 7.45pm and a report will appear on this website later tonight.
