Rye ‘starting all over again’

Rye United manager Marc Gall says it will feel like starting the season all over again when the football club finally returns to action.

The Quarterboys will hope to play their first game in four weeks tomorrow (Saturday) after five consecutive postponements caused by all the wet weather.

Gall said: “To be honest it will feel like starting the season again when we get going. We’ve been doing a little bit every week training-wise, but you can only do so much. It’s just an absolute nightmare.”

With the weather at last expected to start improving, Rye are optimistic of their game at home to St Francis Rangers tomorrow going ahead. St Francis also haven’t played since December 14.

No team in the division has played fewer matches than a Rye side which is still three games away from the midway point in its league programme, as well as being involved in two cup competitions.

Attacking midfielder Jordan Woodley has signed for Rye on a dual-registration basis with Hastings United. Marc Munday and Steve Johnson have also put pen to paper.

“A fit Jordan would be a fantastic asset to us,” Gall said. “I’ve been on at Marc Munday for ages and he’s on board. He’s not a permanent addition yet, but I’m working on it. Steve Johnson will be someone I can fall back on. On his day he’s the best player I’ve ever played with.”

Gall hopes to have Woodley in the squad tomorrow, but Nathan Russell and Danny Woodley are suspended.
