Second half double puts Rye through

Rye United overcame Sussex County Football League leaders Pagham in cup action on Saturday.

Second half goals from Duncan McArthur (penalty) and Luke Woodley, pictured, gave Rye a 2-0 victory in round three of the Sussex RUR Charity Cup. Rye will again be at home in the quarter-finals against Oakwood.

Division Two side Bexhill United gave Division One high-flyers Lingfield a scare in the same competition before going down 4-3 after extra-time at The Polegrove.

Bexhill came from behind to level on three occasions through Andy Garman, Paul Rogers and Linton Rogers, but had Matt Sellick and Paul Henty sent-off at 3-3. Lingfield also had a player dismissed.

Sidley United suffered a dreadful 2-0 defeat away to a Chichester City side which went into the Sussex Division One match bottom of the table. Sidley gave a debut to new signing Bryce Masters.

Westfield lost 4-2 at home to fellow Division Two outfit Eastbourne United AFC in round two of the Sussex Senior Cup. Roberto Martelini scored both goals for a Westfield side which had Matt Cruttwell controversially red carded.

Russell Eldridge’s first game as player/manager of Little Common ended in a single goal defeat away to third-placed Dorking Wanderers in Division Two. Common remain at the foot of the standings.
