Stone is a rock - and he is staying with Hastings

Craig Stone has put pen to paper on a new one-year new contract with Hastings United - making him the latest in a long line of last season's squad members to commit to another Isthmian south-east promotion bid.

Stone formed a formidable partnership with Gary Elphick last term at the heart of the defence as the Us built a colossal defensive record. That said, he also managed to win the club's goal of the season competition.

Stone said, “I just want to reiterate what my teammates have said, we have too much unfinished business left as history making was taken away from us. I love playing for this club, the style of play is just too addictive and I couldn’t walk away from that.”

Manager Chris Agutter said: “I am delighted that Stoney is with us moving forwards. He is such a crucial part of the team both on and off the pitch, a winner and still as hungry as ever to achieve success.

"Stoney and Gaz as a pair formed an exceptional central defensive partnership and from day one of lockdown it’s been my aim to keep them both with us, I am absolutely chuffed.”

CEO Billy Wood added: “Stoney, a warrior on the pitch and a family man off it, is a great example to have at the football club. A very committed individual who doesn’t settle for second best and we are really happy to have him committed to our football club.”

Stone will combine his role at Hastings United with his role as a coach at Gillingham FC.
