Crone, who recently became a father, netted 37 goals last season and has scored five this term.

Eldridge said: “Jamie’s decided he’s not going to be playing at the moment. He feels he’s not got the love for the game at the moment so he’s taking a break and maybe playing a bit of East Sussex League football.

“It was a bit of a shock to me, but you have to respect people’s decisions. We wish him well and hopefully he’ll be back with us in the near future.

“It is a loss to us, but you have to move on and it gives opportunities for other people to come in. Hopefully we’ll have two new players in for the weekend, we certainly should have one.”

Common will host Selsey in round one of the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup tomorrow (Saturday, kick-off 3pm). Common were 2-1 winners away to Selsey in the league last month.
