Striker stars in goal

Morgan is Bexhill’s joint highest marksman this season with six goals in all competitions, but he was preventing goals rather than scoring them in the 1-1 draw at home to Haywards Heath Town after filling in for the suspended Yankuba Camara.

Bexhill manager Marc Munday said: “Jamie Morgan went in goal and was absolutely unbelievable. He’s played a season in goal before and he’s a fantastic ‘keeper. He was the best player on the pitch.”

Bexhill were under par during the first half of their 10th home league game of the season and were indebted to several great stops from Morgan, including a double save where he tipped the ball onto the post from a free kick before diving to his right to keep out the close range follow-up.

Despite all that, Bexhill opened the scoring on 24 minutes courtesy of a trademark Andy Atkin header from a corner. A goal-line clearance by George Aston kept Bexhill ahead at half time.

Bexhill were better in the second half and played some good football. Atkin, the returning Jamie Crone and Chris Cumming-Bart all had chances to score a crucial second goal, yet Heath equalised five minutes from time.

Bexhill cleared the initial corner, but the ball was crossed back in and Gary Rook scored with a free header which appeared to hit him in the face.
