The trial will be held at Horntye Park Sports Complex in Hastings, starting at 10am and finishing at 3pm.

Players will be put through baseline fitness tests and skills sessions, and will take part in small-sided matches which will be overseen by qualified fitness professionals, college tutors and UEFA-qualified coaches from Skiltek Football Academy.

The results of the trial and fitness testing will help the coaches form individually designed training programmes for pre-season, which starts in July.

The college is encouraging players from across the region to attend, giving anyone who hasn’t heard about the course or who hasn’t yet applied the opportunity to show what they can do and possibly to be considered for a place on the course.

The new academy, which will start in September, will be run in partnership with Skiltek and will adopt a style designed by modern day academies seen at professional football clubs.

Students will have 20 hours of study per week which will be split 50/50 with theory and practical sessions, as well as playing matches at least once a week. After successfully completing the course, they will have gained a footballing CV boasting a referee qualification, an FA level one coaching badge, VTCT level two first aid certificate, and either a BTEC level two or level three in sport (depending on course type).

The academy will also give the students the opportunity to be spotted by scouts from professional clubs, as well as gain scholarships to university.
