• Everyone should be able to participate in and enjoy sport – whoever they are and whatever their background.

• Sport is about fairness and equality, respect and dignity. Sport teaches individuals how to strive and succeed, how to cope with success and disappointment, and brings people together with a common goal.

• A commitment to making these values a reality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, and working together, and individually, to rid sport of homophobia and transphobia.

• Make sport a welcome place for everyone – for those participating in sport, those attending sporting events and for those working or volunteering in sports at any level - and working with all these groups to ensure they have a voice, and to challenge unacceptable behaviour.

Sussex County FA Chairman, Mathew Major said: “We want the game to be accessible by as many people as possible, regardless of race, religion, disability, gender or sexuality, and this Charter will go a long way to welcoming a section of the community who want to play football.

“I hate discrimination of all kinds and will do my best whilst I am Chairman to champion all sections of our community.

“This Charter, which clearly sets out our aims, will go a long way to making our game a welcome place for everyone.”

By signing the Charter, Sussex County FA joins The FA, Premier League, Football League, LMA, PFA, the 92 professional Clubs and The FA Council in pledging its support of ‘Football for Everyone’.

Governing Bodies of sport, such as the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) the Rugby Football League (RFL) the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympics Games (LOCOG) have also agreed to the four principles of the Charter.

Football seeks to lead the way in its inclusivity practices and attracting participants from all parts of the community.
