Tired Rye beaten by Peacehaven

Battle-weary Rye United suffered a third defeat in four matches on Wednesday night.

The Quarterboys surrendered a half time lead to go down 2-1 at home to Peacehaven & Telscombe in Division One of the Sussex County Football League.

Rye just couldn’t get going early on and a useful Peacehaven side might well have been a couple of goals up in the first 20 minutes.

But Danny Ellis opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a downward header which the linesman said had crossed the line from Liam Upton’s cross.

Craig Bunch equalised in the 50th minute following a rare mistake by Josh Pelling and the same player netted the winner 12 minutes later at the end of a slick break.

Rye (4-4-1-1): Pelling; Radley, Ramsay, Richardson, Cole; Ellis, Dixon, Maclean (Tuppenney 63), McArthur; Upton (D. Clarke 82); Leach. Subs not used: Gall, Buay, Winchester.
