The U’s remain in the final Ryman Football League Division One South play-off spot of fifth after rivals Faversham Town suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat away to 18th-placed Sittingbourne in their game in hand.

Anything other than a loss would have moved Faversham above United, but the U’s stay ahead of the Kent club on goal difference with two matches remaining.

United’s final games are away to 10th-placed Ramsgate this coming Saturday and at home to ninth-placed Herne Bay the following weekend. Two victories would almost certainly secure a top five finish.

Faversham are away to East Grinstead Town and at home to fourth-placed Hythe Town, while Corinthian-Casuals - who are only a point behind United and Faversham - are away to Walton Casuals and at home to Three Bridges.

Second-placed Dorking Wanderers secured their place in the play-offs last night with a 4-1 victory over a Walton & Hersham side which is relegated as a result.

Ryman Division One South top eight (played 44 matches unless stated): 1 Folkestone Invicta 108pts, 2 Dorking Wanderers (43) 87, 3 Worthing 84, 4 Hythe Town 84, 5 HASTINGS UNITED 80, 6 Faversham Town 80, 7 Corinthian-Casuals 79, 8 Molesey 74.
