United face vital Horsham trip

Hastings United will need to pick themselves up and quick after their agonising midweek defeat because they face another massive game in their fight against relegation today (Saturday).

The U’s were left fuming after going down 2-1 at home to Ryman Premier play-off hopefuls Kingstonian on Tuesday night.

The result leaves Hastings requiring two or possibly three wins from their remaining seven fixtures to make sure they avoid finishing in the bottom four.

Hastings are five points clear of the relegation zone but all but bottom-of-the-table Maidstone United have games in hand. One of them - Aveley - visit The Pilot Field on the final day of the season.

Midfielder Lee Carey has rejoined the club for a third time and played in the midweek defeat, although manager Jason Hopkinson stressed last weekend that “he is only going to play as cover as his commitment is with East Grinstead Town”.

It was also hoped that Rhys Whyborne and Nathan Russell - who both started the season with Hastings - would be available as back-up during the final few weeks of the campaign, while Hopkinson was looking into the possibility of bringing in another couple of players before the transfer deadline at the end of the month.
