  • Hastings United head to Corinthian-Casuals tonight
  • First of three successive away games for United
  • U’s seeking to cement place in play-offs
  • Corinthian only three places and two points behind Hastings
  • Teams contested 3-3 draw in last month’s reverse fixture

Hastings United Football Club will be seeking to start cementing a play-off place as it embarks on a run of three successive away matches.

The U’s will travel to Corinthian-Casuals tonight (Tuesday) before subsequent trips to Carshalton Athletic on Saturday and Hythe Town on Thursday March 17.

United moved into the final Ryman Football League Division One South play-off spot of fifth by virtue of their 6-1 thrashing of Whitstable Town at The Pilot Field on Saturday.

Although they have between two and four games in hand on every other club in the division, there is plenty of work still to be done because only four points separate United from 10th-placed Molesey.

A win tonight would move United within a point of fourth-placed Herne Bay with three games in hand, but a defeat would see them drop back out of the play-off places and be replaced by their opponents.

Corinthian are only two points and three positions adrift of United having played three extra matches, and they too will go into the game on a high having pulled off a very good 2-1 win away to Faversham Town at the weekend.

The teams fought out a 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture five weeks ago when United came from 2-0 and 3-2 down to salvage a point thanks to a tremendous late equaliser from Simon Johnson.

Jack Walder serves the second game of a five-match ban, but United now look to have more strength in depth following the recent loan signings of Harry Doherty, Robin Deen and Mitchell Dickenson. Kick-off tonight is 7.45pm.

Ryman Division One South top 10 (played-points): 1 Folkestone Invicta 38-90, 2 Dorking Wanderers 38-74, 3 Worthing 37-71, 4 Herne Bay 38-69, 5 HASTINGS UNITED 34-65, 6 Hythe Town 36-65, 7 Faversham Town 37-64, 8 Corinthian-Casuals 37-63, 9 Ramsgate 38-61, 10 Molesey 36-61.
