Video: Common boss praises players

Russell Eldridge praised the collective work of his Little Common team, as well as the individual after Saturday’s win over Seaford Town.

Jamie Crone bagged his third hat-trick of the season to go top of the Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division One scoring charts, but player-manager Eldridge was also keen to credit the rest of the squad.

Speaking after the game, Eldridge said: “I said to Lewis (Hole) and Jamie before the game ‘one of you is going to get to 20 goals (for the season) today’ and it was Jamie that got there.

“He’s on fire at the moment. He’s got that turn of pace which is difficult to defend against. When he’s on his day and he wants it, he’s almost unplayable. His partnership with Lewis has been excellent.

“But it’s not just about him; it’s a group effort and I think that’s where we’re doing so well because everyone digs in and works hard.

“We knew it was going to be heavy and it was going to be difficult. It was a matter of getting the three points and that’s what we did. I’m really pleased with everyone.

“We had a few players out and a few people playing in different positions. I thought Joe (Turner) did well in goal, Dom Bristow turned in a good performance at left-back and Steve Morris on his first appearance of the season in heavy conditions did great as well.

“We set the basis from the back, the boys in midfield did their bits and Jamie converted three chances.”
