“We created the better chances”

There wasn’t a great deal to choose between two good footballing sides, but United twice hit the woodwork and had an effort cleared off the line during the second half of a Ryman League Premier Division fixture which ended 1-1.

Ray said: “I’m slightly disappointed not to get all three (points). We didn’t deserve to lose that’s for sure. We certainly had the better chances and we had more chances. I can’t remember Matt (Armstrong-Ford, the United goalkeeper) really getting worked.

“Bognor are a good side and we more than matched them. The players are disappointed we’ve not won. I think if we had held on till half time, we would’ve gone on and won the game. I’m content with a point because it’s something to build on after Saturday’s performance (when United lost 4-0 away to Metropolitan Police).”

Bailo Camara gave United a deserved lead in the 25th minute, but seventh-placed Bognor equalised with a goal out of nothing from Ashley Robinson 13 minutes later.

“We’re disappointed we’re not up there with them (Bognor), but we know we’re as good as these sides,” Ray continued. “We knew they were a good footballing side and were going to have a lot of possession, but I thought we soaked it up well. The boys have really dug in to make amends for Saturday.”
