The Westies recovered from falling behind early in the second half to run out 6-1 winners at home to second-bottom Alfold in Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division Two.

Westfield manager Jack Stapley said: "It sounds harsh on Alfold, but it should've been 10, 12, it could've even been 15. It was one-way traffic the whole game pretty much."

Callum Smith (twice), Jake Adams and Martyn Durrant all hit the crossbar during a first half which somehow ended scoreless, although Stapley felt his team was guilty of lacking composure and rushing their shots.

Alfold took a surprise lead through a 57th minute penalty - their first and only shot on target in the game - but falling behind seemed to get Westfield going and they were 2-1 ahead barely two minutes later.

Getting their shots early rather than trying to score the perfect goal, a more ruthless Westfield added four more thereafter to make it 15 in two games against Alfold this season.

Ellis's second was the pick of his treble as he cut inside from the right, beat a couple of players and shot across the box with his weaker foot.

Smith, Asher Grindle and Matt Dadswell got the others. Dadswell's was a flying knee into the top corner from a Grindle corner.

Westfield could have two new faces on board as they face the division's whipping boys this coming Saturday.

Romeo Ugbene is set to rejoin the club from Billingshurst and another attacking player, Allan McMinigal, is expected to sign from Langney Wanderers.

Fourth-placed Westfield will seek a ninth win in 10 matches when they visit a Ferring side which has lost its first 15 league fixtures, conceding 167 goals in the process.

Stapley said: "You just never know whether they're going to sign five, six, seven players and all of a sudden become a bit more solid, especially with them being at home. We'll treat it as we would any game."
