A solitary second half goal denied Westfield a point against Sussex County Football League Division Two leaders Eastbourne United AFC on Easter Monday.

Westfield had the better chances during a goalless first half. Their best moments included Sam Willett having a deflected volley saved and Matt Dadswell sending a diving header just wide from Jethro Warren’s free kick.

Mike Booth couldn’t convert a Curtis Coombes cross while under pressure and Dadswell was unable to reach a Ross Williams ball across goal. Wes Tate had a couple of efforts at the other end.

In the second half, Westfield goalkeeper Carl Morris came out on top in a one-on-one situation but substitute Mark Goodwin converted a similar opportunity to grab what turned out to be the winner. Jason Taylor came close to a second for Eastbourne, shooting wide with Morris grounded.

Westfield: Morris, Hurley, Durrant, Thomson, Archer, Warren, Willett, Dadswell, M. Booth, Coombes, Williams. Subs: J. Booth, Allman, Miller, Harris, Markham.
