The midfielder had a spell with the U’s last term and has come back to the club for pre-season training.

White said: “He’s a good lad and the players like him. He said to me ‘I’ve got a point to prove to you, the committee, the chairman and the supporters’, and he’s shown a great desire to do so.”

White also planned to speak with ex-Eastbourne United AFC wide player Jason Taylor, who he says has trained hard over the past fortnight and shown a good attitude.

“The senior players have set great examples,” added White. “Richard Rose has shown why he’s been a pro. The way he pushes himself is just outstanding; he’s worked himself like a dog. All of my senior players have been like that, Ade (Olorunda), Tim (Olorunda), Razor (Sean Ray), Sam Adams, Dave Cook.

“We’ve got a good 18 really, but I’ve been reasonably busy trying to maybe get a few more in. I’ve still got some leeway within my budget. I don’t think you’re ever completely happy, but I’m happy with how it’s shaping up.”

The fixtures are due out on Monday and United will host Whitehawk in a friendly on Tuesday (7.45pm). The youth team will face Bexhill United reserves and the under-21s will take on Bexhill’s front side at ARK William Parker Academy tomorrow (Saturday, 9.45am/11.45am).
