Ben White, manager of Hastings United under-21s and first team assistant manager/coach at Little Common, dislocated his left ankle and broke his leg in three places.

Hastings-based White sustained the injury in innocuous fashion while taking part in an indoor five-a-side session with Common at Bexhill Leisure Centre on New Year’s Eve.

Amazingly, White said he didn’t feel any pain while sustaining the injury after his foot “gripped too much” on a recently polished floor (something which he had no problem with incidentally).

“When I couldn’t feel any pain, that was when I got worried because this time it didn’t hurt,” he said. “I looked down and it wasn’t very nice.

“When I got to hospital the doctors said there was no pulse in my foot which would explain why it didn’t hurt. I had to have it relocated on the spot with no anaesthetic and that was painful.

“I’ve had an operation as well; they’ve put some nuts and bolts in it. I’ve got to go back in a couple of weeks and they will re-plaster it for another six weeks.”
