The Sharks came into this game on the back of three straight wins and with their greater height advantage, were intent on imposing themselves on the Giants from the start.

But the Giants who had not played to their full potential in previous matches were not to be intimidated and their strong defence, excellently marshalled by Dave Mills, Luke Hunt and Mark Roby kept the Sharks scoring opportunities to a minimum.

Offensively the Giants made their presence felt by driving to the basket with Craig Douglin and Steve Sear scoring the points, allowing the Giants to end the first quarter 16 '“ 12 in front.

The second quarter saw the teams trade baskets and Giants point guard Josh Mulvey found his range impressively scoring repeatedly from the key, a close first half ended with the Giants still leading 35-34.

The third quarter saw an impressive display by the Giants offence as they played an excellent controlled passing game which saw Douglin, Hunt, Mulvey and Robey take the game to the illustrious visitors and end the third quarter 58- 45 in front, shooting an impressive 90% of their shots made.

The Sharks who were looking at their first defeat of the season started the fourth quarter intent on keeping their unbeaten record intact, and played a tough defensive game forcing the Giants to turn the ball over repeatedly and make easy points against a tiring Giants team. The home side had given their all in front a large crowd and had no answer to the league favourites' impressive last quarter haul of 35 points to 15, with the Giants gallantly losing 73-80.

Hartnell's Hastings Steel Fabricators Man of the Match for an impressive offensive display was Craig Douglin.

Scorers: Craig Douglin 26, Josh Mulvey 17, Mark Robey 14, Luke Hunt 10, Steve Sear 7, Dave Mills, Luke Davis, Pat Bilalis, Simon Maynard.
