Giants survive test against the best

BEXHILL GIANTS U18 34LONDON TOWERS JUNIORS 78

BEXHILL Giants U18s continued their preparations for the Sussex Youth Basketball League by competing in a double header at the Bexhill Leisure Centre against the London Towers one of the most famous and successful basketball clubs in the country.

The first match saw the Giants come up against the Towers Juniors and the match was started at a fast pace with the Towers playing the fast break to good effect to score easy points. The Giants seemed intimidated by their illustrious opponents and good turn out of spectators and did not play to their full potential, making costly errors, which the Towers gratefully received. The first half ended with the Giants

46-14 down. The second half started with the Giants opting for a man to man defence and this enabled Luke Hunt, Josh Mulvey and Craig Douglin to reduce the deficit. Dave Mills, Mark Robey and Simon Maynard worked tirelessly in defence as well.

The Towers stepped up their game and used their vast National League experience to put the Giants under pressure until the end of the match to run out 78-34 winners.

The second match saw the Giants face the London Towers Cadets and the signs were good as the two teams traded baskets for the first few minutes. Steve Sear was impressive in offence, as the Giants seemed more composed than in the first match. The Giants visibly tired after the exertions of the first match and the Towers Cadets won the match 66- 41.

The Giants, sponsored by Hartnell's Hastings Steel Fabricators, start the League campaign against Eastbourne's South Coast Dream on the 10th October.
