Bexhill golf club on course for big investments
Highwoods Golf Club is on course to carry out a portfolio of major investments this year.
The investments, which are on and off course, reflect Highwoods’ sound financial position at a time when some other golf clubs around the country are struggling to survive.
This year Highwoods continued its investment in a substantial new Toro machinery fleet to further improve the course, while 60 new state-of-the-art irrigation infinity sprinkler heads will deliver will deliver a ‘raindrop pattern’ to the tees and greens to aid a consistent putting experience.
Further improvements already agreed by the board, the club agronomist and its head greenkeeper will include course drainage in key areas, designed to manage the high levels of rain we have experienced during recent winters.
As with all golf clubs, greens are a key factor to a good golfing experience. Highwoods recognises this and after some careful consideration of a busy summer golfing calendar, the club has planned key works to the main greens, tees, surrounds and approaches.
This involves a sand and seed injection process which will require two tons of sand being injected into the greens alone. And the new technology will allow the greens to be playable within hours of completion.
Off the course, Highwoods is opening a fitness room, which will be available to all members from early June. The equipment provided will include exercise bikes, rowing machines, stepping machines, cross trainers, light free weights and an exercise ball to help improve general fitness levels.
For the more relaxed fitness enthusiast, a gardening club has also been created to help bring some colour to the clubhouse area with the introduction of seven larger flower planters. Members have already put themselves forward to be part of a Highwoods in Bloom club.
Highwoods would like to thank its members for their continued support and extend their thanks to all residents of Bexhill and readers of the Bexhill Observer who have held social or golfing events at the club over recent years.
Established in 1924 under the supervision of J. H. Taylor and K. G. Hawtree, Highwoods - which is located in Ellerslie Lane - has matured over the years into a well-maintained, quality parkland golf course.
