The Staplecross-based professional missed the cut by a solitary stroke at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa.

Evans, who turned 28 on Saturday, was level par for each of his two rounds at Leopard Creek CC to finish just outside the 75 players who went through to play the final 36 holes.

He got off to a tough start with three bogeys and a birdie in the first four holes of his opening round. Another dropped shot followed at the 10th, but an eagle at the 15th and birdie at the last brought him back to par.

Starting on the 10th in round two, Evans made two birdies, a bogey and a double bogey (on the same hole he eagled the previous day) in the space of five holes from the 13th. He carded two birdies and a bogey on his second nine, but it wasn’t quite enough.

Evans, of Rye and Sedlescombe Golf Clubs, expects to play in around 20 of the lower profile tournaments on the 2015 European Tour schedule after coming 17th on the 2014 European Challenge Tour rankings.
