And on Tuesday, the player signed a letter-of-intent to attend Jacksonville University, an NCAA Division I programme in Jacksonville, Florida, next season.

Wicks, an NJCAA and Ping Golf All-American as a freshman, had a number of programmes that were courting him, but narrowed his choices down to Jacksonville, South Carolina and South Florida as his preference is to play in the south east of the country.

Wicks, of Sedlescombe Golf Club, is enjoying a very good sophomore year. He is second in the NJCAA with a 70.47 scoring average and has either won or placed in the top five individually in just about every tournament he’s played in this year.

The reigning Sussex Amateur champion was named in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference first team. His team will be playing in the NJCAA National Tournament next week in Newton, Kansas.

Long-time Midland College golf coach Delnor Poss says that Wicks has been one of his all-time favourites to coach.
