Golf ace wins on pro debut

Colton Alleyne-Davis has got his professional golf career off to a dream start.

Beauport Park Golf Club’s assistant professional won his debut event and secured a top five finish in his second outing.

The 22-year-old firstly picked up the £1,300 winner’s cheque in the launch event for the new Players Tour. Alleyne-Davis went round the International Course at The London Club - which hosted the European Open in the recent past - in a three-under-par 69.

Drawn first, Alleyne-Davis had a long wait for the rest of the 35-strong field to come in before discovering he had pipped James Doswell, of Highwoods Golf Club in Bexhill, by a shot. Only three men broke par.

Alleyne-Davis got his round off to a flyer with a birdie at the 1st. He went on to make a crucial 15-foot par save at the 2nd before making further birdies at the 3rd, 11th and 13th (where, facing a 200-yard carry over water from

behind a tall tree, he played a high cutting four iron to eight feet). His only bogey came at the 14th.

His confidence soaring, the former William Parker Sports College student then finished tied fourth at Knole Park in the TP Tour Series to take home a further £300.

Alleyne-Davis carded a one-under 69 - featuring an eagle at the par five 17th - to finish level with Simon Lilly, who this year played in The Open and BMW Championship, and one ahead of six-time European Tour victor Paul Broadhurst.
