H&B clinch vital win

HASTINGS & Bexhill moved a step closer to second place and a promotion play-off showdown courtesy of a vital 10-5 win over Crowborough.

The hosts shrugged off four weeks of Sussex League inactivity with a dominant performance in the final hour and, despite the close nature of the scoreline, got home fairly comfortably.

Assistant coach Rob Hamilton said: "I was quite satisfied with the result - we did well. It was more comfortable than it seems."

Crowborough did well early on and touched down for a deserved lead.

H&B hit back through a Paul Sandeman penalty before man of the match Dave Milham spread the ball out wide for Rob Sparkes to dive over for the only try of the afternoon. Sandeman added the conversion to complete the scoring before half-time.

H&B return to league action at Hellingly on March 15.
