H&B need to improve

HASTINGS & Bexhill know they will have to improve on their opening day performance in the Sussex Rugby League if they are to get anything out of their match against University College Chichester.

H&B began their Division One campaign with a comfortable 56-22 win away to St Francis, one of the teams expected to struggle in the top flight.

The visitors ran in nine tries to wipe away an early deficit before rather worryingly, falling away in the latter stages of a pretty one-sided contest.

Head coach Rob Stanley said: Scoring 56 points away from home against anyone is a good sign but conceding 22 against a side which is going to be near the bottom of the table is not so good.

Kick-off for the match at William Parker on Saturday (September 29) is 3pm.

The try-scorers against St Francis were Ben Campbell (3), Steve Kimber (2), Neil Redmond (2), Andy Hitch and Robin Bradbury, while captain Paul Sandeman kicked three conversions and a penalty.

Eighteen-year-old Andy Dalton had a good game on his league debut and his efforts were rewarded with the Morgan & Lamplugh Solicitors Man of the Match.
