H&B see off basement boys

HASTINGS & Bexhill brushed aside Sussex Division One basement boys St Francis with a 36-6 drubbing at William Parker.

They made things difficult for themselves however, as they were guilty of playing as individuals rather than as a team and almost allowed St Francis back into the game.

Assistant coach Rob Hamilton said: "We started like a storm and blew them away and I don't think they even touched the ball for the first ten minutes.

"But the players probably thought it was too easy, relaxed a bit and lost concentration which allowed them to kick three penalties for a 15-6 half time score. If we had gelled together I think we would have steam rolled them."

Seb Halligan, Tony Roach, Colin Brooks, Andy Hitch and Steve McManus were among the scorers with Neil Redman kicking four conversions and a penalty.

Morgan and Lamplugh man of the match was Dave Sprinks ahead of Paul Northern who retired injured, colt Andy Dalton and John Fairey.

H&B entertain Pulborough in a friendly at William Parker on March 23 when they are hoping to try out colt scrum half Craig Burgess.
