Keen grabs gold at nationals

Hastings Seagull freestyle champion Hannah Keen continued her awe-inspiring success with a magnificent display in the British Gas UK National Age Group Swimming Championships.

The reigning Sussex Champion and all-time Sussex County record holder in both the 50m and 100m freestyle travelled to Ponds Forge in Sheffield with high hopes of success, and returned home a week later with a silver medal in the 100m and a gold in the 50m, becoming the 2012 Age 19 and over UK Champion.

In the 100m heats, Keen finished fifth fastest of the 85 qualifiers in a time of 58.68. She went more than a second quicker in the final to clinch the silver in a time of 57.61.

In the 50m freestyle heats, Keen finished as the fastest qualifier for the final by half a second in a time of 26.48 - 0.28 outside her the PB she set when finishing ninth in the Team GB Olympic Trials earlier this year.

In the final, she produced a display of power, strength and poise to destroy the opposition and touch home first in a PB of 26.02.
