Late double blast gives Saxons win

South Saxons scored two late goals to snatch a 4-3 victory from the jaws of defeat away to Penguin on Saturday.

The South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One game got off to a lively start with chances for both teams in the early stages, but it was the home side who drew first blood.

It didn’t take long for Saxons to get back on level terms. Will Orr set off on a run down the right and delivered a cross for Julian Buss to apply an expert finish from a yard out.

The away team went into the break 2-1 up with a reflection of the first goal, this time with Alex Coombs running down the left before placing a pass to the back post for Buss to finish once more.

Penguin equalised and then took the lead with 15 minutes remaining. With tempers flaring, the umpires clamped down on some poor discipline from both teams.

Saxons pushed for an equaliser and it duly came when Orr drove into the D and shot inside the far post. With a few minutes left, a poorly executed short corner ended with Toby Reed place the ball into the goal for the win.
