Bexhill Giants will be hosting the inaugural World Club Basketball Tournament this summer.
The tournament is open to male teams from around the globe, with the objective to provide teams of all levels with the opportunity to compete against other players representing their countries.
The Giants have been instrumental in organising a number of international tournaments over the last three years, which have seen American teams USA Select Basketball and Lake Michigan Admirals, and Canadian side Toronto Knights visit the town.
As a result of the success and worldwide exposure of these events, the Giants’ founder Eric Douglin was contacted by several teams asking to take part in any future events the club held.
This increased interest led to the club taking the decision to host one major tournament to enable the teams to compete in a world basketball extravaganza.
The tournament will see teams will see teams from USA, Canada, France, Turkey, Spain, Tunisia and England compete on September 12-13 to be crowned World Club Tournament champions.
In addition to free youth coaching clinics, there will be freestyle basketball demonstrations, cheerleaders and giveaways.
Douglin said: “We have been overwhelmed by the interest which the tournament has generated across the basketball world.
“We have been contacted by several teams, including the France National Military team, USAF Lakenheath Eagles and Club Sportif Hammem of Tunisia, who have expressed interest in entering their teams.
“This will be a great opportunity to promote and showcase English basketball on the worldwide stage, and we intend to make it a great event.”
