The Starfish Endurance Races will take place on Bexhill promenade on Sunday May 10 from 10am.

In association with St Mary’s School and Bexhill Rowing Club, Bexhill Runners & Triathletes are organising a fundraising marathon, half marathon and relay team event for runners, joggers and walkers.

As well as an individual marathon and half marathon, there will also be relay options for the marathon distance for teams of two or four.

The relay races for teams of four mean that each runner would only cover 10.5km, which is much more manageable than the marathon for most people.

Bexhill Runners & Triathletes would like to encourage local businesses to enter teams.

There will also be fancy dress children’s races for under-14s before the adult races. Entrants in all of the events will receive a commemorative starfish medal, and there are plenty of prizes available for the winners of each category, plus spot prizes and a charity team prize.

The start and finish will be opposite Bexhill Rowing Club, which will act as the event’s base. Runners will tackle a 10.5km looped course along the seafront promenade, which is predominantly flat, but with two small hills at the eastern end.

Each entrant’s number will be entered into a free draw to win £100. There will also be spot prizes where the first runner passing a certain point on the course at a pre-determined time will be awarded a prize at the end of the race.

Faye McClelland, a four-time world paratriathlon champion, has agreed to present the prizes.

While all proceeds from the Starfish Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay Races will go to the children and young people at St Mary’s, organisers are also encouraging people to enter the event and raise sponsorship for the charity/school of their choice.

Several race sponsors are already in place, but more are being sought.

A website has been set up specifically for the event at starfishraces.moonfruit.com and it also has a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/StarfishMarathonRaces.

The event is being advertised at www.bexhillrunnerstriathletes.co.uk as well and runners are welcome to get in touch if they need help with their training.
