H&B are up to third in Kent One and within a point of the top two ahead of the trip to sixth-placed Vigo tomorrow (Saturday) and visit from runaway leaders Sheppey next weekend.

Brooks said: “After the next two games we will have an idea of what we’re going to do for the rest of the season. They’re too toughies.

“It’s nice to be up there. I’ve put no pressure on the troops to push for promotion. If we’re still in Kent One next season, then we would seriously look at a promotional campaign with the strength we’ve engendered in the club this season across the ones and twos.

“To say I’m surprised (by how well they’ve done so far) would be demeaning to the players. I’ve always known the skill level was there, but we’re advancing at a greater rate than I thought we would.

“In terms of the guys coming up to skill and stamina levels, we’re probably ahead of the game. The important thing is the touchline gets entertained and the guys have fun.”

H&B are 11 points better off than Gravesend-based Vigo and were 28-12 winners in October’s reverse fixture.
