One-off distance race to celebrate Battle of Hastings
A special one-off distance running event will be held later this year to mark the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings.
The 1066 Way to Battle, as the approximately 16-mile race will be known, will take place on Sunday October 16.
Sponsored by 1066 Country and with Eric Hardwick MBE as race director, the run will start from Pevensey Castle at 9am and follow the well-known ‘1066 way footpath’ to the finish at Battle Abbey.
The minimum age to participate is 17 and the event will be limited to 1066 entries. To enter, go to www.hastings-half.co.uk and click on ‘1066 Way to Battle’.
It will be a well-organised race, as part of many 950 celebration events, and a unique opportunity to follow this route almost 950 years to the original day of the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
All finishers will receive a special minted brass to commemorate the occasion and all monies raised from the event will be used by Battle Lions Club for the community. More details will be available during the coming months.
