Opening fixture revives double memories

SIDLEY United will be hoping lightning strikes twice after being handed an away trip to East Preston on the opening day of the Sussex Football League season.

The Blues began their double winning campaign of 2000/01 at Roundstone Recreation Ground when a goal from Andy Atkin clinched a 1-0 win.

Before the big kick-off on August 10 Sidley play their only pre-season friendly at Hythe Town on Saturday August 3.

Meanwhile, joint manager Peter Heritage is trying to persuade Paul Sully to come out of retirement. He explained: "Hopefully he will help us out for a few games until I get some new players in."
