Another England selection for hockey star Green

After another successful season, University of Bath student Amelie Green has been selected for the England Universities hockey squad for the third consecutive year.

It has been an excellent year for the youngster, captaining the University of Bath side in the British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS) National League, where they competed against the top university sides in the country.

At the weekend, she plays for Bath Buccaneers HC first XI, who have had a successful season after being promoted into the England Hockey National League West Conference.

On being picked, Green said: “I am delighted to be selected for the side and am looking forward to ending university on a high by getting to play such a high standard of hockey.”

As well as English success, the former South Saxons star has been scouted to play overseas for the forthcoming season.

Amelie has been awarded a hockey scholarship to UMass (University of Massachusetts) in America to complete a masters degree alongside playing hockey.

UMass is a division one flagship school on the east coast of America who compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference against some of the strongest colleges nationwide.

UMass have a strong history of hockey success and have produced a number of world class players in recent years across Europe and America.

This is an exciting prospect and a wonderful achievement for Green, who started playing at local club South Saxons.

The English season was unfortunately cut short due to the coronavirus.

However Green said: “I am very much hoping for hockey to resume soon.”

England Universities have an exciting summer ahead, with a series of matches taking place against England U21, England O35s, as well as the hope of playing some European opposition in Spain and Belgium.

The youngster aims to continue to improve her hockey with the dream of playing for her country in the coming years. Watch this space!
