Robertson through to Crucible

Jimmy Robertson has reached the televised stage of the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship.

The Bexhill potter pulled off a superb 10-6 victory over 1997 champion Ken Doherty in the final round of the qualifiers on Sunday.

And he did so by winning all seven frames during the evening session at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield, having trailed 6-3 after the morning session.

Robertson told Observer Sport: “It’s massive. To be 6-3 down and come out and win 7-0 basically against Doherty is a massive achievement. When I was a kid I used to watch him on the tele all the time, but I knew if I played well I could beat him.”

Robertson, who previously knocked out Tony Drago 10-8 and Xiao Guodong 10-9, will now wait and see which one of the world’s top 16 players he is paired with in next Monday’s draw.

The Betfred.com World Snooker Championship will take place at The Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, from April 16-May 2.

There was disappointment for St Leonards cueman Mark Davis, however, as he was beaten 10-5 by Rory McLeod at the same stage on Saturday after losing the first seven frames.
