Royal 5K ready for the off

Around 200 runners have signed up for the Royal 5K in Bexhill tomorrow (Friday).

But it will be possible to enter in the morning by popping in to the registration area in Devonshire Road from 8am. The cost is £15 for athletic club members and £17 for the unattached.

The race will start in Devonshire Road at 9.30am and head west along the seafront before returning back along the same stretch to the finish, also in Devonshire Road.

Road closures will be in place from 7.30am-12noon. Each finisher will receive a bespoke Royal 5K commemorative medal and commemorative t-shirts can be purchased for £10.

Put on by Bexhill Runners and supported by TL Sports Events, the fun run is being held to mark the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Competitors are encouraged to don fancy dress with a brides and grooms theme, and there will be prizes for the best-dressed club runner.

Greg Cahill, general manager of TL Sports Events, said: “It’s filling up well. We’re looking at I think 200 (runners) probably at least. It’s looking like it’s going to be quite warm and it should be good.”

The event will raise money for the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, which helps young people who are disadvantaged or in need of guidance, armed forces personnel who have been injured and their families, and the environment.

There will also be races over 2K, 1K and 500m for children from just after 9am. Entry can again be made tomorrow morning.
