H&B continue winning start

H&B scored 33 points in the second half as they chalked up a third Kent One win out of three at Ark William Parker Academy on Saturday.

In complete contrast to the previous weekend’s atrocious conditions, the game was played in ideal weather, which enabled H&B to display their open and attacking rugby.

They opened the scoring after 10 minutes with an excellent forwards’ try scored by Mark Piotrowski.

Despite the size of the Beccehamian second row, H&B’s pack was always in command of the set-piece, loose play and lineout, giving away very little ball throughout the game.

H&B were just five points ahead at half time, although the margin could have been greater but for the resilience of the Beccehamian defence and handling errors at crucial moments.

H&B increased their lead with a well-taken try from Tim Sills, who ran 30 metres to score after an excellent break from full-back Harry Walker.

Beccehamian got on the scoreboard with a well-struck penalty awarded for offside and it remained a closely-fought contest for the first hour with crunching tackles and slick handling from both sides.

H&B gradually took control with four excellent converted tries, the first of which was Frazer McManus’s first try in the league and it gave H&B the lift they needed.

From this point it was pretty much one way traffic. H&B’s forwards were on top form and made plenty of ground, while fly-half Kit Claughton provided quality ball to the backline, leading to tries from Ben Petty and Tim Sills.

Walker found his kicking boots and stretched the lead with some well-taken conversions. The final score came with another try from Piotrowski, who was well supported in the attack by number eight John Hanagarth following more H&B domination of the loose.

H&B played open and flowing rugby, defended well and made the most of their scoring opportunities to record an excellent win over a tough Beccehamian side which beat them twice last season.
