An H&B side which lies fourth in Kent One will travel to Surrey One leaders Old Cranleighans for a London & SE Junior Vase quarter-final tomorrow (Saturday).

H&B head coach Chris Brooks said: “We’re going into it pretty optimistically. Surrey is a bit of a hotbed of rugby union and there’s a very good standard up there, but we’ll go there with a strong side and a positive outlook.”

H&B have won 10 of their 16 league matches so far, while Cranleighans have won 11 of their 15, including all of their last six, to sit four points clear at the top of their division.

One of Cranleighans’ victories since the turn of the year was a 52-10 win away to Kingston - the team which H&B defeated 20-13 on their travels in the previous round.

“I guess on paper we would have to be seen as underdogs,” added Brooks. “I’m assuming they’re a well-rounded outfit and it’s going to be a tough game, but it would be fantastic if we could get through.”

Having knocked out Petersfield and Kingston so far, H&B are the only Kent One side left in the competition and one of just two Sussex-based clubs still standing.
