Runners battle the elements

Just over 100 runners battled through strong winds and driving rain to complete the Beckley 10K on Sunday.

Jeff Pyrah was the runaway winner of the Nice Work organised-race in an excellent 33:32, which was well over a minute quicker than his winning time of 2011.

The Rye Runner finished nearly five minutes ahead of runner-up Mark Goodman, who was the first of five unattached competitors in the top seven. Greg Thompson was third in 39:48.
