Runners on their marks for inaugural 10k

MORE than 200 runners are expected to line up for the inaugural Hilden Health Beckley 10K on Sunday October 16.

But that figure could still increase further because entries will be accepted on the day for the Beckley Village Centre-organised event.

The UK Athletics-sanctioned race is one of the highlights of the week-long celebrations marking the centenary of the Beckley Village Hall and it is hoped that the race will become an annual event.

"The race has attracted runners from all over the south east," said Beckley Village Centre chairman Steve Bowler, "and we have some quality runners in the field. There's also been some really good support from the local clubs in Hastings.

"But the race isn't just for seasoned runners. We've been encouraging runners of all ages, abilities '“ and sizes '“ to join us and there will be a number of people running their first ever race. It really will be a great event to run."

The course starts and finishes on the village's main street and in between winds its way around the local lanes.

All finishers will receive a medal, goodie bag and there will be free beer, cakes and fruit for the participants.

In addition to the main event, there will also be a one mile race for children and a two mile adults' fun run, entries for which can again be made on the day.

The race headquarters for on the day entries and baggage will be located in the Village Centre, to whom all proceeds will go, and the race starts at 11am.
